A Common Ground for All

The Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway represents an opportunity to anticipate metropolitan growth and provide equitable access to green space and recreational opportunities to all

As the Metro Atlanta Region continues to grow, about 1 million people will live within a 15-minute bike ride of the proposed RiverLands Greenway. This regional resource will directly connect 19 cities by building upon a robust social infrastructure network. The 19 cities located within 3 miles of the Preferred Alignment are:

  • Buford
  • Sugar Hill
  • Suwanee
  • Duluth
  • Johns Creek
  • Roswell
  • Sandy Springs
  • Berkeley Lake
  • Peachtree Corners
  • Smyrna
  • Atlanta
  • South Fulton
  • Douglasville
  • Chattahoochee Hills
  • Whitesburg
  • Marietta
  • Alpharetta
  • Norcross
  • Dunwoody

Currently, 69,521 people live within 1/4 mile of the Preferred Alignment (5 min walk), 136,556 people live within 1/2 mile of the Preferred Alignment (10 min walk) and 798,612 people living within 3 miles of the Preferred Alignment (15 min bike ride). Additionally, 232,913 people live within a 15 min bike ride (3 miles) of a new Trailhead.

The Eppley Institute has found that nearly 67% of the surrounding population reported that their daily physical activity increased as a result of the proximity to greenways. Translating this to the RiverLands, the trail has the potential to help 540,000 people increase their physical activity, and therefore, their health.
