Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area –– West Palisades Trail

The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area: Palisades Units, both East and West, sit adjacent to a wide stretch of the river with rocky bluffs and sandy shorelines. Unpaved trails meander down to the river through shaded hardwood forests where Red Buckeyes were blooming when the Team visited in the Spring. Tall tree trunks and exposed bedrock frame views out to the Long Island Shoals that dot the surface of the Chattahoochee River. At the river’s edge, the beach sand scintillates in the sunlight from millions of tiny mica particles that reflect the light. Before getting in your kayak, grab a life jacket at the public safety station and check the dam release schedule!
